Mother of the Buddha’s Wisdom
The Heart Sutra is considered the Heart Essence of a much broader teaching, the Prajnaparamita, which means "supreme transcendent wisdom" or "absolute truth". Referred to as the Mother of the Buddha’s Wisdom it is the realization of emptiness within all appearances, Just as a child cannot be born without a mother, likewise a Buddha cannot be born without relying upon the “Mother” of the perfection of wisdom. The Heart Sutra describes a dialog between Buddha Shakyamuni’s disciple Shariputra and the bodhisattva Avaloketeshvara at Vulture Peak Mountain, India. In their discussion, which is actually an expression of the Buddha’s meditation, they reveal the wisdom of Prajnaparamita, the Great Mother.
